As we discussed earlier in the week on this blog as part of the Birth Control Blog Carnival - the Institute of Medicine has issued recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services that contraception be covered under the Affordable Care Act as Preventative Care. In my opinion, this would be awesome for the insured women of our county - Co-Pay free birth control? Sign me up!
However, Bill O'Reilly seems to have a different feeling on the matter....*sigh*

For those of you that couldn't stomach the video (I can't blame you!) I'll quote what Captain Brainiac had to say: "In a discussion that connected a call for free birth control to binge drinking and the marijuana legalization movement, O’Reilly told an all-female panel, “Many women who get pregnant are blasted out of their minds when they have sex. They’re not going to use birth control anyway.” Quote via Raw Story.

See my open letter to Mr. O'Reilly after the break.
Dear Mr. O'Reilly
I wanted to take the time today to explain why your comments on your show were so horribly inappropriate. I get the feeling that the women in your life don't feel comfortable talking to you about the medical realities of contraception. I would guess between all the attempted phone sex and loofahing - you don't leave much time for conversation. So let me break this down for you - the kinds of contraception that the IOM is talking about are like the pill, iuds, the patch, the ring - stuff that is of the "take every day" or "leave it and forget it" variety. Hopefully, that clears a bit of the confusion up. However, I feel we have a bigger problem to discuss.
Bill - just so you know - women don't have to be "blasted out of their minds" to have sex. No, really, trust me on this...sober sex happens.
Now, if sober sex doesn't happen with you there are two distinct possibilities:
1) The women you are seducing really find you repugnant and will only sleep with you if sloshed.
2) YOU are plying the women with alcohol to get in their pants.
Given your history of unwanted sexual advances - I have to wonder about #2.
You should be a little more careful Bill! Don't want to have to settle anymore lawsuits. It's always good to have someone with such a stellar record on women's issues discussing these subjects!
